WELCOME TO IDERS THINKTANK

Introduction

Over the course of this year( 2016) Democratic Republic of the Congo( DRC)  gathered in London( United Kingdom) on the 27th June 2016 highlighted the need to address the economics and development challenges faced by the Democratic Republic of the Congo since its independence in 1960. After a lengthy debate, it was agreed that a think tank be established under the name of the Institute of Development and Economic Reforms Congo ( IDERS) to provide innovative  ideas  through  conducting research  with a view to  propose economic policies aimed at strengthening development planning for poverty reduction.  In the context of the 21st Century development paradigm, innovative policies become important why?  Because it will help policy makers and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of country economic and development agenda. It will help policy makers to become aware of the key issues that are of critical importance to development programming and implementation.

Improving livelihoods

We are also supporting extremely poor and vulnerable households to improve their livelihoods, for example through training or the distribution of seeds and tools through a voucher system. Where possible, we also provide cash transfers enabling people to decide how best to meet their immediate needs themselves.

Increasing access to water

Less than 50% of the population in the Democratic Republic of Congo has access to clean water, and only 30% has access to adequate sanitation. With the help of our supporters, we are working hard to improve this situation. We are increasing access to safe water supplies and helping communities improve sanitary conditions, contributing to improved health.

Moving out extreme poverty

As well as receiving regular cash transfers to meet their basic needs, participants take part in training related to their job area and in life skills like nutrition and conflict resolution. Households in the program are then supported with a capital transfer to jump-start a new venture or job.
